We are planning our spring hike on the Appalachian Trail next weekend and (hopefully) to meet Mr. Jones and walk with him for 21.1 miles over a couple of days. We will be traveling up to the trail on Friday night and this is our proposed itinerary: Friday night (0.4 miles) Leave at 7pm from Sharp Elementary School parking lot, Old Orchard Road. Travel to intersection of route 501 and AT Meet Jerry and walk 0.4 miles to Applebee campsite (or stay in Route 501 shelter adjacent highway, if empty) Saturday (14.1 miles) Walk to Fort Dietrich (8.4 miles) for lunch (or 8.8 miles, if we stayed in the shelter) Walk to Eagle’s Nest shelter and campsite for dinner and overnight (6.1 miles) Sunday (6.2 miles) Walk to Auburn Lookout, wave goodbye to Mr. Jones and exit trail. Return to Sharp School. ALL SCOUTS SHOULD HAVE 2 QUARTS OF WATER WITH THEM WHEN THEY LEAVE AND HAVE SPACE IN THEIR PACKS TO CARRY FOOD AND EQUIPMENT FO THE TROOP.
